personality for someone who barely wants to be awake to begin with, being laid-back and lackadasical is the almost tropish contrast that perfectly defines Mai. Having no sense of urgency is his foremost character trait. However, somehow, someway--be it by trick or tact, he demonstrates precise focus and employs deadly magics when necessary...the trial is getting him to believe it to be necessary.

 Hooks 

  •  Late fees  after acquiring the alabaster grimoire, he's learned that time dilations have been reported all across etheirys, giving its residents infrequent deja vu. If you feel like this isn't the first time you've seen him...it isn't.

  •  Down the Hatch  Mai doesn't exactly understand or appreciate how money works, so he spends it rather carelessly. One such way is buying drinks for anyone he finds interesting at the nearest watering hole.

  •  the Darkstalker  If there's one thing Mai understands, it's that when things go bump in the night, you're gonna want to be able to bump back. If there's a bothersome creature or nightkin bothering you, he can take care of it...but you'll have to amuse him.

  •  napturnal  You will encounter him napping. That's just a fact of life.

  •  the...darkstalker?  He is very commonly confused for a local criminal that keeps breaking into people's homes. Usually a quick explanation will clear his name, but it's beginning to annoy him to the point of taking action. His sincerest condolences if you've heard of him—or worse, were a victim.

  •  say cheese!  When he first got here, he stole someone's camera. Now he's taking pictures to record his memories and journey in this world. Maybe he'll snap one for you. He's done it enough to be talked about because of it. (OOC: yes, this means I will take a free gpose of your character.)

the darkstalker is an ancient being that slumbers within the shrine of Meikyo Village, a small settlement in the continent of Fujin in a faraway land. A very long time ago, the entity came to the village and in return for protecting the people of Meikyo from being abducted(and sometimes worse) by the Yokai that lived there, he would receive offerings and be built a shrine as a site for him to enjoy his eternal slumber. meikyo village is shrouded in a deep, deep darkness...and that darkness' name is Mai Seiken.

 Tales of the Xenocrypt: Etheirys 

The xenocrypt exists beyond time and space, in a plane once cursed by deity and demon alike. the most dangerous machinations in all of creation are banished to this domain, and every so often, an anomaly in time-space will leak. as a result, a relic of the xenocrypt will damn history with its presence. our tale begins here.

mai seiken, a "yokai", ironically cares little for the xenocrypt or the threat it poses. However, as a member of the nocturnals and an adept user of darkness, he is tasked with following the rift to its source and retrieving the relic in question. The alabaster grimoire is a terrible tome with the ability to send its reader forward and backward through time by simply reading its pages, which are said to have all of recorded history in them. created at the edge of time to prevent the apocalypse, its power was unsurprisingly misused and has since been passed forward and backward through time, changing the outcome of seemingly inexorable fates and leaving minute yet compounding rifts in whatever era it finds itself in.

having just awakened from a three-year nap, mai finds his power more or less sapped. To combat this he suggests...another nap, to which the others vehemently oppose. It's revealed that the alabaster grimoire has landed in a star called etheirys shortly after a time-space anomaly threatened to fuse worlds on an interdimensional level. opting at first to enter this world through a passage known to them only as "the thirteenth," mai delves into the world and finds the darkness of the void incompatible with his admittedly eldritch energies. A rough transition is made and in the end he succeeds in entering etheirys and landing in a place called Mor dhona.

the alabaster grimoire, though safely tucked away now in the xenocrypt, has tainted his very being with variations of Temporal Magic. Now equipped with the concepts astra and umbra as well as alabaster arcana, the yokai hangs around to investigate possible other xenocrypt relics that had gotten loose. Just as soon as he finishes some paperwork, he'll be back in Fujin, just as quickly and as inexplicably as he had come. he's got a shrine, followers, offerings, darkstalking, and a metric fuckton of sleep to get back to.

 Darkvision 

on account of being a being a 'yokai', Mai possesses the ability to see in even the darkest darkness.

 Umbra: Oscuro 

his breath becomes thick, inky darkness that blinds anyone caught in it. Perfect for escapes or other umbra arts.

 umbra: nachtflugel 

when umbra: oscuro is active, mai can move through the area-of-effect with silent, cunning steps. Critical hit chance is boosted.

 Facsimilie 

Mai takes on the guise of anyone he's seen or met, down to the freckle. This illusion shatters once he's taken battle damage. At higher levels, there is a damage threshold that is restored over time.

 Umbra: Pagaraze 

his eyes piece into the target's soul, inflicting paralysis. when umbra: oscuro is active, all targets in the zone are affected.

 Anima: Hikari 

using the concept anima, Mai can engage in healing arts and use very limited Light-aspected aether.

 Anima: Fukkatsu 

Maximising his control over the concept of anima, Mai can raise a recently downed entity.

 Nierless Replicant 

mai can create up to nine copies of himself for a limited time, each with half of his current HP.
